The Eventice

The brainchild of Liz Sinclair, Director of esp recruitment, The Eventice has been running since 2011 in London and was successfully launched in Dubai in 2013.

For those of you who haven't read about it in the press, The Eventice is an Apprentice style competition that we run in association with Mash Media and Bluehat, that allows final year event management students to compete to win up to two jobs in the industry. It can be tough for graduates in general to get their first step on the ladder, so this competition allows them the opportunity to win one of the most prestigious graduate jobs available. In the past we have been lucky to have offered jobs to the graduates with Excel London, DMG Events, George P Johnson, Blitz, Tarsus PLC, Blue Hat, Informa and Innovations Unlimited in Doha.

The students apply to take part by uploading a short video onto a website about themselves and why they feel they deserve to win. The applicants are narrowed down to a final 12-15 and invited down to London to take part in a series of tasks over three days, which showcase their ability to multi task, organise, lead, project manage, negotiate, network and present. Their skills are assessed by a group of industry professionals over the three days and in the grand finale, the final five students make a presentation to a high profile panel of industry experts. The winners are announced and offered a job on the spot.

We have been very lucky to have placed 25 students over the past seven years, as a direct result of them taking part in the Eventice.

“The Eventice is such a great competition to get involved in and I could not recommend it highly enough as I am now in a job that I love and cannot wait to get up in the morning to start work – I don’t think many people can actually say that. The competition gives you a chance to try and get a job but more importantly gives you an opportunity to start networking with event companies which is vital in this highly competitive industry. It is 3 days out of university however if you are prepared and organised this doesn’t impact your studies in any way and I found it actually gave me a confidence boost going into my final months at university.” Joanna Thomas, 2015 Winner and Special Events Executive and DMG Events in Dubai

Taking part in The Eventice is free for all final year event management students, all you have to do is upload the video to YouTube, then send a link for the video to with a copy of your CV including your name, email address and daytime telephone number and a profile picture. You will also need to provide the name of the course you are taking, graduation date and the name of your university.
